Chess โ€“ TI-Nspire CX II Game Download

Chess gameplay on a TI-Nspire CX II

Standard chess for two people on one calculator. Pass it back and forth, or set it between you on the desk and pretend it's a very small board.

How to install it

  1. Download the game with the button above. You'll get a .tns file, the file type TI-Nspire calculators use.
  2. Open nspireconnect.ti.com in Chrome on a computer or Chromebook, and plug your calculator in with its charging cable.
  3. Choose File Transfer, then To Calculator, then From Computer, and pick the .tns file you just downloaded.
  4. When it lands, the calculator shows a prompt. Choose Open and you're playing.

TI's web app only supports the CX II and CX II CAS. If you have an original CX, or you already use the TI-Nspire Student Software, sending the file through that works the same. The game lives in My Documents afterwards, so you can reopen it any time.

Moving pieces

  • Move the cursor over a piece and click to pick it up.
  • Move to the destination square and click again to place it.
  • ctrl + del clears the board back to the starting position for a new game.

Know before you play

There's no computer opponent in this one. It's strictly you versus a friend, which honestly suits a calculator sitting between two desks. And like over-the-board chess, the two of you are the referees, so settle the "that's not how knights move" debates yourselves.

If you want to play the calculator instead of a person, grab Checkers, which comes with two AI difficulties.
