The CalcPlex adventure began back in 2014 when I got my first graphing calculator, a TI-84 Plus C Silver Edition, for my Algebra 1 class. I didn't have a phone and only had limited internet access, so this calculator ended up being one of the few pieces of technology I could tinker with.
Like many students, I started by downloading games on it. Soon after, I was writing my own programs to automate my math class: a quadratic solver, a Pythagorean theorem program, and more. Seeing how code could build tools that actually saved me time got me hooked.
Along the way, I became the "calculator guy" at school. I was showing classmates how to load games and programs onto their own calculators, and math teachers started coming to me for help.
Why I built CalcPlex
Helping others with their calculators showed me a real problem: if you aren't already comfortable with tech, getting programs onto a calculator isn't intuitive at all. The tutorials out there were thin, and most of my friends would give up partway through unless I walked them through every step.
I've made it my goal to make calculator programming as accessible as possible, not just for the people who already call themselves tech experts. The YouTube comments and emails from people saying they finally got it working are what keep me going.
These days I work as a software engineer, applying the same principles to everything I build. I plan to keep CalcPlex going for as long as graphing calculators are in students' backpacks, and to be the go-to resource for all your calculator needs.
